Review: The Defenders

This is my brief review of Marvel | Netflix “The Defenders” series that aired on August 18, 2018.

The connection to “The Hand” was seamlessly done. Each hero’s world found its relationship due to orchestrated incidents. New York City is the epicenter of everything. The main antagonist is Alexandra and we understand her motivation early on in the series.  Luke Cage is released from prison and learns that kids are dying in his neighborhood.  Matt Murdock has given up the mantle of Daredevil to pursue a normal life.  Jessica Jones stopped taking cases.  Danny Rand and Colleen Wang continue pursuing The Hand in order to save Kun Lun.  All five fingers of The Hand come together.  Stick is being held captive but escapes in a costly way.  Elektra is now The Black Sky.  The heroes reluctantly work together to stop The Hand.  They win but not without collateral damage and consequences.

I felt the story did a great job connecting the four main characters into a single world.  Despite their diverse background, each situation were pieces of a puzzle each character held.  The chemistry between them was great and the dialogue also went well.  There wasn’t much that I did not like about the series.  Danny Rand improved since his Iron Fist series debut.  I wish it was longer than eight episodes but the shorter series worked well nonetheless.

If you haven’t watched it then I hope you will because it is well worth it and it sets the stage the next run of Marvel Netflix episodes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

I am also looking forward to The Punisher series, which is slated to release in November 2017.
