Yesterday, I watched the film “Oppenheimer.” There was a lot to take in while watching. Some scenes did not connect well, and the film’s reveal of the animosity between Oppenheimer and Strauss could have been better. Despite all of that, the cinematography was excellent, and I enjoyed the underlying story of Oppeheimer’s moral dilemma. Overall, I liked it.
I had another strange dream last night. I am getting over this cold; I want to take a sick day, but that will negatively impact me.
I finally watched the Marvel Spotlight series “Echo.” It told a decent story about family, relationships, traditions, and consequences. Learning about the Choctaw tribal customs and beliefs was cool. The series was okay overall.
I watched “Bitconned,” “Man on the Run,” and ” The New Americans: Gaming a Revolution” on Netflix. These documentaries are informative and eye-opening regarding finance, corruption, and the digital age.
I watched the film “The Marvels.” Overall, it was a fun film, and Kamala Khan was the most entertaining character. Nick Fury’s presence and “Saber” felt like this story happened before “Secret Invasion.” I didn’t care for the musical scene, but I’m not a fan of musicals. A scene with Kamala and Kate Bishop sets up the “Young Avengers” and a mid-credit scene connects to the multiverse. It gets a 6.5 out of 10 rating from me. It wasn’t that bad.
I started watching “Blue Eye Samurai.” The story and animation are outstanding. I also watched “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” a fascinating tale about a man who used mysticism to get rich. A short film that was more like a stageplay.
Today, I will start assessing my situation. It’s time to clean house and stop wasting things. Happy Monday.
Last night, I watched “Loki” season two, episode three, “1893.” Renslayer and Ms. Minutes find Victor Timely to set him on the path of becoming “He Who Remains.” Loki and Mobius also locate Timely to bring him back to the TVA to fix the “Loom.” Sylvie is the one who ends up putting things on the path to a multiverse of madness. I think Ms. Minutes has a thing for Kang. A good episode.
Later, I watched “Gen V” episode six, “Jumanji.” Memories are shared, and dirty secrets come clean. There is a bioengineered virus created against the supers that only targets individuals with compound-v. A decent episode.
Last night, I watched “Ahsoka” episode three. I loved the connections between this series, “Andor,” and “The Mandalorian.” The episode was a packed 30 minutes; Ahsoka, Sabine, and Huyang uncover the secret Imperial plot while the New Republic downplays their potential threat. I enjoyed the combat scenes especially Ahsoka taking down space fighters with her Light Sabers.
Last night, I watched “Ahsoka.” I have not watched “Clone Wars” or “Rebels” so, I do not know the entire backstory of Ahsoka, Sabine Wren, Ezra, Thrawn, etc. I felt that the first two episodes did an excellent job of connecting this story with subtle imagery. Episode one starts out slowly while episode two begins picking up the pace.
This series has exciting potential and I look forward to seeing how it plays out.
I have been keeping an eye on the path of Hurricane Hilary. The storm is supposed to weaken by the time it hits Southern California.
Last night, I watched “The Pope’s Exorcist” on Netflix. Russell Crowe plays Father Gabriele Amorth who is sent by the Vatican church to investigate a child possessed by a demon. He uncovers the secret of a powerful monster buried beneath hallowed ground seeking to have Gabriele destroy the Vatican church.
The story is a story based on the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican.
Overall, I found the film interesting and entertaining.
Jaxx had his vet appointment today. He is healthy, his weight is good, and his shots are up to date.
Last night, I watched “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” season two finale titled “Hegemony.” The return of the Gorn tests the crew of the Enterprise as Pike and his team attempt to rescue Captain Patel, the surviving crew members from her ship the USS Cayuga, and the colonists at the edge of Federation space.
Montgomery Scott makes his Strange New Worlds introduction and has the key to an advantage over the Gorn.
Captain Patel reveals her deadly fate, Spock and Chapel take down a Gorn in the most bad-ass way, La’An, M’Benga, and Ortega are captured, and a season-ending cliffhanger that has Captain Pike speechless.
The suspenseful episode sets up the third season for what I believe are more changes to the crew. Unfortunately, we are left to ponder the fate of the USS Enterprise for a year.
I submitted my application for that writing opportunity. We’ll see what happens next.
Fate knocks on your door today, and guess what? It’s bringing you a pleasant surprise. The Wheel of Fortune is like getting a lucky lotto ticket and you win a big prize.
Today brings you a sudden surprise and that is both unexpected and overwhelming but it’s not without your effort. You are the one who will put yourself in the right place at the right time.
This morning, I gave Jaxx his first fur cut. I learned that he is not a fan of the barber clippers. He’ll be sporting an asymmetrical look for a few weeks.
I watched “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” season two episode nine, “Subspace Rhapsody.” Emotional realities were front and center, melodiously.
I’m not one for musicals, but this was an enjoyable episode.
Tonight, WWE is showing Summer Slam.
The matches involving The Judgment Day and The Bloodline are storyline plot progressions that have me interested. All of the other matches should be entertaining.
Yesterday, I watched “Invincible: Atom Eve Season 202.” This prequel episode is Eve’s origin story and I enjoyed it.
I started watching season two of “Good Omens.” I’m four episodes in and intrigued by the mystery of Gabriel’s appearance, memory loss, and why he is unrecognizable to other angels and demons, except Aziraphale and Crowley.
The California wildfire is moving into Southern Nevada. The sephia-colored sky and the smell of burning embers present an intimidating atmosphere.
I watched, ” Knock at the Cabin,” yesterday. The film is a fascinating take on the apocalypse. Dave Bautista’s role as Leonard, the towering mastodon with a compassionate heart was well done. I am typically skeptical of M. Night Shyamalan’s films but this one was decent.
Yesterday, I watched Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two episode eight, “Under the Cloak of War.” The story is about a Klingon Ambassador formerly known as “The Butcher of J’Gal” whose presence triggers strong emotions from crew members who fought in the Klingon war including Ortega, Chapel, and M’Benga.
We learn from flashbacks that Chapel and M’Benga served together during the war. The story ends with a fascinating plot twist.
I watched “Secret Invasion” episode six, “Home.” The finale episode was short and to the point. There was some closure and new opportunities that possibly set up the next phase of Marvel Studios. Overall, the series was lukewarm. It felt like a two-hour movie that Disney forced into six episodes.
Mental preparation for the week ahead; I went to bed early.
Yesterday, I watched “They Cloned Tyrone” on Netflix starring, John Boyega, Jaime Foxx, Teyonah Parris, and Keifer Southerland. Directed by Juel Taylor. The town of Glen is the center of experiments on the black community from fast food fried chicken, black hair products, a popular grape drink, and cloning. The laboratory was located beneath the town where research is performed and the town is monitored. A humorous and mind-bending conspiracy story.
Mental preparation for the week ahead; I went to bed early.
On June 8, 2023, I attended a screening of “The Flash.” The film contained elements of the DC Comics “Flashpoint” and “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Some moments excited me, raised my anxiety, and fell flat. It did a great job conveying the story’s message, “learning to let go.”
I started with their Irish Coffee, served in a pretty glass.
On Monday, May 29, 2023, we ate breakfast at Toasted Gastrobrunch in Las Vegas, Nevada. The interior had a late 60’s style diner decor with a friendly atmosphere. I started with their Irish Coffee, served in a pretty glass.
I ordered the SHORT RIB BENNY, made with grilled sourdough, braised short rib, Harissa hollandaise, poached eggs, and pickled onions. The short rib was cooked perfectly tender, as well as the poached eggs. It was the pickled onions that gave the dish an exceptional flavor.
The staff accommodated our needs; every interaction came with a smile.
If you’re looking for a spot with excellent food and great service, then Toasted Gastrobrunch is the place for you.
On HBO Max, Warner Bros released “The Last of Us,” season one. I played the video game upon its release on the PlayStation 3 in 2013. This video game adaptation into a nine-episode season initially made me skeptical. I watched the finale, and every episode was brilliant, from the writing to the casting and the landscapes. I applaud the directors and producers of the show; well done!
Warner Bros renewed the series for a second season.
